How it Works
The Crime Stoppers of Tangipahoa system is setup to allow you to report a crime or a tip anonymously through our secure tip process. We will not ask for your name! If your tip leads to an arrest you may be eligible for a reward up to $1,000. Be a part of the solution!
Crime Stoppers’ anonymous hotline protocol is designed to ensure confidentiality and encourage individuals to share information about crimes without fear of retaliation. Here’s how the process typically works:
1. Call or Online Tip Submission
- Anonymous Call: The person contacts Crime Stoppers through the hotline 800-554-5245, or submits a tip online at www.tangicrimestoppers.com or via the P3 app.
- No Caller ID or Tracking: The system is set up to ensure no identifying information (like phone numbers or IP addresses) is collected. This helps to maintain the anonymity of the tipster.
2. Tip Intake
- Call Taker: The call is answered by a trained operator who asks for details about the crime. This might include who was involved, when it happened, where it happened, and other specifics. The operator will avoid asking for any information that could identify the caller (such as their name or location).
- Anonymous Online Forms: If submitted online, the form is designed to prevent tracking. The user submits the information through an encrypted system.
3. Case Number Assigned
- Once the tip is submitted, the caller or online tipster is given a case number or a unique ID. This is the only way for them to follow up on their tip and claim a reward if it leads to an arrest or resolution.
4. Forwarding the Tip
- The information provided is then forwarded to law enforcement or relevant authorities. Crime Stoppers ensures the tips are passed to the appropriate agency, while keeping the identity of the tipster completely confidential.
5. Follow-Up
- If the tip leads to an arrest or helps solve a case, the caller can use their case number to follow up for potential rewards. They will never be asked to appear in court or give any further identifying information.
6. Claiming a Reward
- All tipsters must remain anonymous. If identity is revealed, tipster forfeits their reward. If a reward is offered, the caller uses their anonymous case number to claim it. The reward is issued through an anonymous process.
Key Points of Anonymity
- No Caller ID: Phone numbers are not tracked or recorded.
- No IP Tracking: For online submissions, IP addresses are not tracked.
- No Need for Personal Details: Callers are not required to provide their name, contact details, or any information that could identify them.
- Secure Channels: All communication is encrypted and confidential to prevent leaks of information.
The goal of this protocol is to make the reporting of crimes as safe and anonymous as possible, encouraging people to come forward without fear of exposure.

How Our System Ensures Your Anonymity
Through an extensive communications network between the community, law enforcement and the media, Crime Stoppers of Tangipahoa solicits information from citizens whenever a crime is committed.
When you call or submit information, you are given an ID number or PIN by which you are identified in all follow-up contacts with the Crime Stoppers of Tangipahoa organization. You will then be directed to call back or log back in on regular occasions to determine if your information has helped to arrest a perpetrator.
Once an arrest has been made and charges laid, Crime Stoppers of Tangipahoa pays out a cash reward to you for providing the information.
NOTE: All individuals who are featured on our “Wanted” billboards or any other “Wanted” advertisement or social media listing are selected solely by law enforcement. All suspect’s photos and warrant information stating charges, etc. are supplied and verified by the law enforcement agency submitting the information. Law enforcement is responsible for verifying that warrants are current as of the publication date and are asked to inform Crime Stoppers of Tangipahoa if and when the suspect has been apprehended. Crime Stoppers does not select individuals but refers to our law enforcement partners to select cases to be promoted.
