For Immediate Release: Halloween Safety Tips for the Family during Crime Prevention Month
Amite, LA – Crime Stoppers of Tangipahoa would like to wish everyone a happy and safe Halloween. Crime Stoppers urges parents to have a Trick-or-Treat route plan and asks them to follow a few simple tips to protect their children. The National Crime Prevention Council suggests “Playing it Safe on Halloween” and offers the following “Pointers” for parents and children.
Amite, LA – Underage drinking has become widespread problem in all of our communities. Alcohol is the number one drug of choice among our teenagers and young adults and alcohol related car crashes have become the number one killer of teenagers in the United States. It is tragic to say, but true, that most of us know someone or know of someone personally that has died or been killed due to their own alcohol abuse or due to the alcohol abuse of someone else. Over the years, I personally have lost family and friends due to alcohol related driving incidents and have had to experience the pain and loss of those loved ones. This loss is tragic, senseless, painful, and life-changing to those left behind – especially when it is the loss of a young person.

Amite, LA – The Internet has become a wonderful tool for all of us to use when searching for information, staying in touch with family and friends, for entertainment purposes, as well as homework and educational uses. The Internet however can also be a very dangerous place for children to explore on their own, without rules, and without adult supervision. As parents or caregivers, it is your responsibility to educate yourself about the Internet and communicate its potential dangers to your child. In most cases, our children and youth know more about the Internet than we do – so your knowledge of it is important.
Amite, LA – October is the month that was designated in 1984 as National Crime Prevention Month by the National Crime Prevention Council (NCPC). All over the country, it is the official month of crime prevention. It is a time to celebrate our successes in crime prevention and a time to educate ourselves about the things that we as citizens can do to make our communities safer places to live.

Amite, LA – Crime Stoppers of Tangipahoa is celebrating Crime Prevention Month. In 1984, the National Crime Prevention Council designated October Crime Prevention Month. Every year since then, government agencies, civic groups, schools, businesses, and youth organizations have reached out to educate the public about public safety, crime prevention, and crime awareness during this special month.
2009 Night Out Against Crime A Big Success
Thank you Tangipahoa Parish! – The 1st Annual Tangipahoa Night out Against Crime on Tuesday, August 4th, in Downtown Hammond was a great Success! Crime Stoppers of Tangipahoa is deeply grateful and proud to have worked with all of the members of our parish wide community that participated in this event. When we began this project four weeks prior, we had no idea that it would be embraced by Tangipahoa in the way that it was and grow into such a wonderful public safety event!
Crime Stoppers of Tangipahoa, Target, the Ponchatoula Jaycees, Bell Foods, and the Downtown Development District worked in partnership with local law enforcement agencies, businesses, the media, the Tangipahoa parish community and other non-profit groups to organize and promote participation in the event. With over 1,200 people in attendance, Night Out served its purpose of educating the public on all public safety, crime prevention and drug awareness. It was a night of family fun, togetherness, and learning for all present- Truly “A Good Night to Get to Know Your Neighbors”.
